Working with Seul Terre collaborator + architect Suzie Lofting, this one focused on bringing the indoors out to create an incredible living space beneath a new Hanso Pergola. The existing curvilinear retaining walls, which had held the hillside for decades, posed a challenge that was met with a new rectilinear-designed retaining wall to frame the new space behind the garage. All existing planting on the lower level terraced hillside was removed due to plant health, placement and invasive species. Tucked beneath towering redwood trees, this area just outside the new pergola space was redesigned with mass plantings in slightly curved lines to soften the transition between the existing hillside and the new outdoor living area we created. Black slats frame a large television with a beautifully designed tiled shelf below. Completed FALL/WINTER ‘25 with contractor Rick Delemain.
